Athenaeum Bringing Christkindlmarkt to Downtown Indy This Holiday Season

The heat of the summer sun is blistering now, but the chilly temps of winter are just around the corner. To help usher in this year’s holiday season in downtown Indianapolis, the Athenaeum Foundation (401 East Michigan Street), announced its first Christkindlmarkt to be held in the Rathskeller Biergarten.

“We are thrilled to bring the Christkindlmarkt to the community,” said Athenaeum Foundation President Craig Mince. “It will be a great time to celebrate the holidays through the lens of German Heritage, experience something new and be in community with others.”

The Athenaeum Christkindlmarkt will run from November 25 through December 18 Thursdays -Sundays and feature traditional German food, entertainment, gifts and tons of holiday spirit.

A traditional Christkindlmarkt is meant to be a holiday gathering place filled with German music, food and drink and, of course, goods from local artisans. While North Split construction will be ongoing during the inaugural Athenaeum Christkindlmarkt, Mince believes the event will draw big crowds.

“I know the North Split reconstruction is designed to better our community. It will be wonderful when it is done. Until then, we will manage and channel a little extra holiday spirit, if needed.”
