The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are reconstructing the I-65/I-70 North Split Interchange in Indianapolis. Because of traffic congestion on regional interstates caused by several major transportation construction projects, including the North Split I-65 and I-70 closure, INDOT and FHWA will implement temporary ramp management strategies on I-465 on the south and east side of Indianapolis. The strategies include temporary ramp metering and temporary ramp closures.
The purpose of the temporary ramp management strategies is to better manage recurring traffic congestion on I-465 which will be further impacted by construction, interstate closures, and detours for the following projects:
- I-65/I-70 North Split Interchange Project (Construction: 2021-2022)
- I-69 Section 6/Finish Line Project (Construction: 2021-2024)
- Clear Path I-465/I-69 Project (Anticipated Construction: 2022-2024)
These temporary ramp management strategies will be managed through continuous monitoring and adjustment during construction. They will be implemented later in 2021 and last approximately 18 months.
